WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WRAP UP VANIER TOURNAMENT 2-2

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WRAP UP VANIER TOURNAMENT 2-2

SUNDAY UPDATE: The Women's Basketball team split their final two games at the Vanier Tournament, giving them an even 2-2 record at day's end. The Hawks defeated John Abbott on Saturday night by a final score of 73-61; Llyandra Kerr and Jillian Semple led the way with thirteen points apiece.

Humber wrapped up their weekend with a 75-63 loss to Laval in which the blue and gold battled back form being down twenty to make it close, but time ran out on the squad. The Hawks open their season on October 23rd when they will play host to the Mohawk Mountaineers.

SATURDAY UPDATE: The Hawks opened the Vanier Tournament with a 66-56 win over the host Cheetahs; leading the way for the blue and gold was Aleena Domingo, with eleven points, three rebounds and two steals on four of eight shooting. Humber then fell to Ste. Foy 67-46; Atissa Cronk had a near double-double in the loss with ten points and nine boards.

HUMBER OFF TO VANIER TOURNAMENT FOR PRE-SEASON TUNE UP

The Women's Basketball team is headed to Montreal this weekend for the Vanier Tournament, where the Hawks will  tip off their tournament on Friday at 7pm against the host Cheetahs.

Humber will then take on Sainte-Foye at 1pm, followed by a night cap with John Abbott College at seven. The blue and gold will wrap up their weekend on Sunday against Montmorency at 12:30pm; with the regular season just two weeks away, this will be a crucial tune-up for a squad that has high aspirations heading into the 2014/15 season.

The Hawks are coming off a year that saw them capture the Western Division crown, going 16-2 in the regular season and outscoring opponents by nearly sixteen points per game. Humber will be buoyed by the return of star point guard Cassandra Nofuenta; after getting off to a torrid start in 2013, averaging 14.8 points per game in the seasons first five games, she suffered a lower body injury that kept her out for the rest of the year. With her back in the line-up, along with key pieces from last year's squad coming back, the Hawks appears poised to make some noise on the provincial, and possibly national, level.

Check back for updates from the tournament throughout the weekend.
