ACE MYRANDA PIERSON JOINS HAWKS SOFTBALL PROGRAM

Winners of two Provincial Championships in the Programs first four years, Humber's Women's Softball Team announced the addition of ace Myranda Pierson on Thursday.

The Hawks will be looking to bounce back from a pair of one-run losses at the 2014 OCAA Championship, falling to eventual champion St. Clair and finalist Conestoga in two of the season's tightest games. Pierson joins a staff that already features Amanda Van de Graaf, who spun consecutive gems at Provincials and will be looking to carry that momentum into 2015.

Myranda attended Woburn Collegiate, where she was named the schools 2013/14 Athlete of the Year. She played club ball with the Pickering Heat and starred both on the mound and as a shortstop. The Toronto native sees herself making a positive impact in her freshmen season; along with Van de Graaf and Aaliyah Davidson, Humber should feature an impressive set of arms.

The Hawks return much of a line-up that scored six runs a game, and Pierson is sure to bolster a rotation that was among the OCAA's stingiest despite losing Davidson early in the year. Humber had a team batting average of .348, a .479 team slugging percentage, and a winning record both at home and on the road. The infusion of talent, combined with many key returnees, should have the Hawks in contention for a third OCAA Title.
