WOMEN’S SOFTBALL WORK OVERTIME IN SPLIT WITH DURHAM

Humber closed out their Oshawa road trip by splitting their double header with the Durham Lords and played in the most dramatic game of the season yet.

Game one seemed to go Humber's way as the squad took a 3-0 lead by the second inning. But the Lords scored a run in the bottom of the second and slowly chipped away throughout the game. The Blue and Gold had high hopes of adding insurance runs to their lead but Durham shut them down. The Lords tied the game in the third inning and added a run in the fifth and sixth to win 5-3.

Humber came out firing in the second game by scoring another three runs in their first at-bats. This time, when it came to creating scoring opportunities the Hawks meant business and came back with another four runs in the second. Durham didn't lie down either and they cut Humber's lead 7-4 in the third and eventually ran the score to 8-7 for the Hawks. Offense was hard to come by in the next few innings but Humber laboured to stay ahead. It wasn't meant to be and the Lords surpassed the Hawks 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth. The Hawks had one last kick at the can in the top of the seventh and successfully tied the game and held the Lords scoreless to go into into international tie breaker. The Hawks and the Lords each scored a run in the eighth but the turning point came in the ninth inning. The Hawks woke up and rallied with none out and hit the living daylights out of the ball. The inning was highlighted by two clutch triples from left fielder Elyssa Dobson and catcher Terah Camilleri to send the Hawks to a 15-11 victory.

Humber will be back at home on Tuesday to play host to the Seneca Sting for a one game showdown at 6 p.m. at Wildwood Park.
