King City, Ont. – Humber cross country was back in full swing for the new competitive year as the Hawks said hello to a familiar course at Seneca's King campus. The rolling hills, bottle-neck trails and the massive "main attraction" hill made for a major test for faces old and new to the yellow and blue birds.

Men's team captain Brendan Woolley said, "it's probably one of the toughest courses on the OCAA circuit, but everyone killed it."

The women's six-kilometre race set the tone for the morning. Sofia Vozza set the pace for herself and teammate Hannah Brohman, finishing 22nd and 27th, respectively.

All the Hawks team was present for the men's eight-kilometre race, where Blaise Uglow went out with purpose attacking the race leaders immediately, resulting in a top ten finish at ninth. The remainder of the Hawks team fed off of one another, utilizing pack running strategies. Jaivir Sandhar and Mason Biswas fought to 13th and 14th place finishes. Julian Zamparo led the next group, finishing 22nd, with Brendan Woolley (27th), Kenyon Beaty (28th) and Luca Ferrari (29th) all finishing within 46 seconds of one another. Humber's men's team managed a podium result as the third-place team.

The potential shown has the team very excited for the remainder of the season. "This hill, this course is only going to shape us for the future," Woolley said. "Starting on the hardest course, we're only going to build from here and go faster and faster. I think we're looking good."

The Hawks will continue their season-long climb in London, where they will race at the Fanshawe Invitational.
