Vergara named to Cross Country coaching staff

The Humber Hawks Cross Country program is pleased to announce the hiring of Kirsten Vergara as an assistant coach.

ETOBICOKE - Second-year head coach Scott Skimming has announced the addition of Kirsten Vergara to his coaching staff for the 2022 varsity season.

"Kirsten is an exceptional young woman with an unparalleled academic and athletic resume," said Coach Skimming. "Her personal experiences as a high performing student-athlete gives her a depth of understanding that will serve her well in this role. I am very excited to have her join our Humber Hawks program."

Kirsten attended the University of Arizona on a full NCAA Division I cross country/track and field scholarship. She graduated with honours receiving two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in elementary education and the other in informational science and e-society.

Beyond her experience running in the NCAA, Vergara has also competed as a member of both the Canadian and Chilean National triathlon teams at the World Championships, World Cup, Pan American Triathlon Championships and North American Championships.

Following her graduation, Kirsten worked as part of the University of Arizona Physical Education curriculum development team before returning to Canada where she now works as a teacher at Bill Crothers Secondary School.

"I am very excited to be joining the Humber Hawks family," said Vergara. "I would like to thank Scott and Humber Athletics for this amazing opportunity. I'm thrilled to be working with Scott. He's extremely knowledgeable and has years of experience helping athletes reach their full potential. Humber is a great school, with incredible student-athletes and I look forward to using my prior athletic experiences in conjunction with Scott's guidance to help take the cross country team to the next level."

If you're interested in joining the Humber cross country team, tryouts begin August 22. Interested participants are strongly encouraged to complete the Prospective Athlete Form.
