Season Preview: 2021 Humber Cross Country

The Humber cross country program will open the 2021 season on October 2 at the Fanshawe Invitational. Due to the late start to the season, the Hawks will compete in two invitationals this month in preparation for the OCAA championship on Oct. 30 and the CCAA national championship in Calgary on Oct. 13.

At the Helm

Leading Humber for 13 seasons, head coach Teresa Arnini retired after helping the Hawks capture two national titles. Scott Skimming was introduced as head coach by athletic director Ray Chateau in September 2020. President and head coach of 310 Running since 2009, Skimming established the top-ranked U16 female endurance program in Canada in 2019 with two athletes ranked in the top-eight nationally in three different events. He also had two athletes ranked in the top three provincially in five different endurance events.

An NCCP Certified Club Coach and In-Training Performance Coach, Skimming himself has quite the athletic resume. He's competed in over 25 marathons – including three Boston Marathons and Ironman Germany.

Familiar Faces

Niagara Falls native Kayleigh Bush and Richmond Hill native Megan Raso are the only two members remaining from the 2019 squad. Bush has three top-ten finishes in her career, while Rasso finished tenth at the Seneca Invitational in 2019.

Leading the way

With a brand new men's squad, Coach Skimming has named former Brock University standout Umberto Lopardo as the 2021 team captain.

2021 OCAA Championships

The provincial championship will be hosted by Humber College on October 30 at the Albion Hills Conservation Centre.
