2022 Season Preview: Women's Volleyball

ETOBICOKE – Humber women's volleyball will return for its 38th season, opening the OCAA schedule on October 21 against the Niagara Knights at the North Campus Gym. First serve is set for 3 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.

2021-22 Highlights
  • The Hawks returned to the OCAA mountaintop, capturing the program's 16th provincial title – the 14th under the guidance of coach Chris Wilkins.
  • Humber finished the year with a 13-3 overall record with a top CCAA ranking of four.
  • Keyome Ellis was named a CCAA All-Canadian, while Erika Dodd was named the OCAA Rookie of the Year. Alex Lachapelle and Alex Krstonosic were named first-team all-stars.
At the helm

Head coach Chris Wilkins returns for his 21th season, averaging 19 wins per season. Coach Wilkins owns a 388-56 (.874) career record – which is one win shy for most all-time in Humber varsity history, behind his brother and men's volleyball coach, Wayne Wilkins.

In 20 seasons, Coach Wilkins has only lost 19 matches during the OCAA regular season.

Former Humber all-star Alley Newman will be joining the coaching staff as an assistant coach, joining Mandi Doris (seventh season), Taylor Robertson (fifth season) and Ben Hong (second season) on Coach Wilkins' staff.

Fresh faces

Six players will be donning the navy and gold for the first time this season:

  • Stephanie Armstrong, S, Pickering – competed for the Nipissing Lakers and was named the 2016 OUA Rookie of the Year.
  • Te-Anna Stephenson, RS, Scarborough – competed for the Srt. Clair Saints for three seasons and was the 2019 OCAA west division scoring champion.
  • Leah Serlin, OH, Vancouver – appeared in 25 matches for the SAIT Trojans from 2019-22.
  • Ara Telan, LS, Philippines – making postsecondary debut.
  • Reese Cholette, LS, Oakville – making postsecondary debut.
  • Sarah Bindi, OH, Schomberg – making postsecondary debut.
Record watch
  • Alex Lachapelle needs 118 digs to move into second all-time at Humber.
  • Alex Krstonosic sits 145 points back of moving into the top-10 for the Hawks.
