Team huddle before the match

Women's Volleyball dominate opening match at nationals

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – The Humber women's volleyball team opened the 2022 CCAA national championship in dominant fashion, cruising to a straight-set victory over the Holland Hurricanes, 3-0. The final set scores were 25-14, 25-15, and 25-20.

Playing the host squad to open the tournament is never an easy task, but Humber's experience was on full display after the opening whistle. It was a back-and-forth set until a big kill from Keyome Ellis sprung an 8-2 run for the Hawks. Two quick timeouts from Holland could not stop Humber's momentum, as the Hawks took all the energy out of the home crowd. The Hawks took the first two sets, 25-14, 25-15.

The final set was much like the first, as the Hawks continued to serve well and play great defence. Senior Aleks Steins recorded three blocks in the match, while all-star libero Alex Lachapelle had 12 digs. The Hurricanes make a late push near the end of the final set but were unable to overcome the deficit, with Humber taking the final set, 25-20.

Alex Bartmann finished with a match-high 33 assists and was named the 4imprint player of the match.
