Gatti's tally sends No. 5 Women's Soccer to OCAA semifinal

OSHAWA – No. 5 Humber women's soccer advanced to the semifinal round after defeating the Cambrian Golden Shield, 1-0. Antonia Gatti's second-half tally was enough to send the Hawks to their sixth straight OCAA semifinal.

Match Recap

The quarter-final matchup had a slow start, with Humber controlling possession but could not get its first shot attempt until the 20th minute. The remainder of the half continued to be very uneventful, with both teams struggling to find offensive opportunities to notch the game's first tally and take the lead.

The Hawks were the better of the two teams in the scoreless first half posting three shot attempts with two coming on target. Meanwhile, Cambrian etched zeros across the scoresheet offensively as they failed to attempt a shot in the first 45. Golden Shield goalkeeper, Laura Hill, was a bright spot for Cambrian as she stopped two shots off the boot of Humber's leading goal scorer, Kaitlynn Russell

The Hawks jumped ahead to a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Scarborough native Antonia Gatti netted her first of the postseason tournament off a rocket from 35 yards out. The midfielder's long attempt found the bottom right meshing of the target, putting the Hawks ahead in the 51st minute of the match.

Cambrian pushed to find the equalizing tally; however, they were no match for the Humber Hawks' all-around team effort. Through 90 minutes, the Golden Shield could not get the ball on net, and Humber cruised to a 1-0 quarterfinal victory.

Humber finished the match posting eight shot attempts, with seven coming on net. First-year Hawks goalkeeper, Isabella Bernardi, picked up her second clean sheet and win of the 2022 postseason.
