McCallum and Ouellette holding up their tournament awards

Women’s Golf wins team event and two individual silvers at rain shortened nationals

WINDSOR – Humber women's golf put together an exceptional national championship tournament, leading the team event from start to finish. All-Canadians Hayley McCallum and Madison Ouellette led OCAA 1 to the national title in the team competition, while Elaine Surjoprajogo led OCAA 2 to a national bronze.

OCAA 1 won the team event by six strokes, while Anne-Sophie Bélanger from Champlain St. Lawrence won the individual title by one stroke.

Heading into the final round at the Ambassador Golf Club, McCallum and Ouellette were battling for the individual national title. With nine holes left in the tournament, Ouellette took a one-stroke lead with McCallum hot on her tail. Unfortunately for the duo, the skies opened up and after a weather delay, the round was called. Without the completion of the round, tournament scoring reverts to the end of round three, and McCallum and Ouellette finish with individual silver medals. They became the first dup to finish on the national podium since Bev Peel and Maggie Trainor accomplished the feat in 2008. Ouellette and McCallum were also named to the all-tournament team.

Surjoprajogo, teamed with Devyn Fraser (Durham) and Sophia Fallea (St. Clair), led OCAA 2 to a team bronze medal, finishing 31 strokes behind RSEQ 1 in second place.
