No. 7 Women’s Basketball cruises to crossover victory

ETOBICOKE – No. 7 Women's basketball earned its spot in the OCAA Final Eight tournament with a dominant victory over the George Brown Huskies Saturday afternoon, 86-44. The Hawks will head to Welland to defend their title at the provincial tournament beginning March 3.

Kia Watt led the team in scoring, finishing with a game-high 22 points. Marley Bonnick and Brittney English both recorded double-doubles, while Sidney Crawford added ten boards, and Maezell Del Mundo scored ten points off of the bench.

The Hawks opened the game with a quick bucket from Brittney English and jumped out to a 10-5 lead at the halfway mark of the opening frame. The Huskies were able to keep it until Maezell Del Mundo hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Hawks a six-point lead after ten minutes of play.

Brampton native Marley Bonnick went off in the second quarter, recording 12 of Humber's 22 points in the frame. The Hawks went into the break with a 13-point lead, with most of their buckets coming from second-chance shots.

Humber's second-half adjustments proved to be too much for the Huskies to handle, as the Hawks held George Brown to only 15 points over the last 20 minutes of game time.
