Miea drives up the court

Campbell-Johnson headlines 2022 OCAA award winners

Humber wins the East Division title, OCAA player of the year, a CCAA All-Canadian, defensive player of the year, sixth woman of the year, and three first-team all-star selections.

ETOBICOKE – No. 3 Humber women's basketball received numerous league accolades Tuesday morning when the OCAA announced its annual awards as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

Senior Miea Campbell-Johnson was the headliner for the awards announcement after she was named a CCAA All-Canadian, the OCAA Player of the Year, and East Division Defensive Player of the Year. MCJ concluded the abbreviated season averaging a double-double, averaging 23.6 points and 17.6 rebounds per game. The Brampton native was the only player in the country to record a triple-double this season, finishing with 20 points, 25 rebounds, and 10 blocks in a win against Seneca.  Miea's historic season makes her just the second player in program history to be named the OCAA Player of the Year and the 14th All-Canadian selection since 1990.

Joining Miea as a first-team all-star was Kia Watt, who finished fourth in the league in scoring at 21.8 points per game. From Jane and Finch, Watt averaged seven assists this season – tying Ceejay Nofuente's program record from 2018.

Brittney English was also named to the first team for the first time, setting new career-highs in points and rebounds per game. The fourth-year guard recorded two double-doubles this season, including a career-high 33 points in a win over Seneca.

Sarah Baptie made an immediate impression as soon as she stepped on the court, earning 2022 All-Rookie honours. The Mississauga native led the conference with a 57.9 field goal percentage and finished third in 3-point percentage and sixth in steals.

Jasmin Onate played an important role off the bench for the Hawks, winning the inaugural OCAA Sixth Woman of the Year award. The Mississauga native averaged four points and four rebounds in 17 minutes of action per game.

Humber has now received 21 OCAA all-star and six all-rookie selections during the Coach Sharma era.

No. 3 Humber basketball will travel to Windsor to the OCAA Final Four, hosted by St. Clair College. The Hawks will open the semifinal round against No. 11 Niagara on Mar. 16 at 8 p.m.
