Four Men's Volleyball players receive All-OCAA recognition

LONDON – No. 14 Humber men's volleyball received All-OCAA recognition Wednesday evening when the conference announced its yearly awards, which are determined by a polling of the OCAA coaches.

After a 13-5 season, the Hawks finished second in the OCAA West Division and saw three players named to the All-Ontario team. Fourth-year middle blocker Jaskarn Kalsi was named a first-team all-star for the first time during his Humber career, finishing with a team-high 29 blocks and 0.55 blocks-per-set average while leading the squad in swing percentage. The Rexdale native also finished with a career-high in kills, service aces, digs, and points.

Two-time All-Canadian Jake Gomes was named to the second team, earning All-Ontario recognition for the third straight year. Gomes finishes his illustrious career third all-time in OCAA history with 159 service aces, while first all-time at Humber with 1,832 assists.

Senior Jaydon Milne left his best season in a Humber uniform for last, joining Gomes on the second team. Milne led the team in scoring and finished his career with 640 points.

Freshman phenom Michael McAlpine was named to the all-rookie team after a season where he appeared in 16 matches for the two-time defending provincial champions. The big lefty led the Hawks in scoring average and kills while adding in 19 aces and 14 blocks.

No. 14 Humber will now set its sights on three-peating for the second time in program history (2010-12), opening the OCAA tournament with a quarter-final match on Feb. 23 against Algonquin (14-5, 3rd East) at Fanshawe College. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
