Top-ranked Men's Volleyball falls to Redeemer in bronze semifinal round

Match 10 - Redeemer Royals 3, Humber Hawks 2

The Redeemer Royals won in five sets over the Humber Hawks 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-12) to advance to the Bronze Medal Match.

In the first set, the Royals took the lead at 8-7 and despite persistence from the Hawks, Redeemer held on to claim the first set. Humber responded in the second with contributions from many on their roster to even the match at one win apiece.

The defence was key to the Royals' victory in the third set, where they fought off several attacks from the Hawks and persevered through many long rallies between the two OCAA squads. The Hawks bounced back again in the fourth, earning a decisive set win.

Redeemer jumped into the lead to start the fifth and refused to let the Hawks regain the upper hand, eventually earning the win and the opportunity to battle for bronze.

Match 8 - Titans de Limoilou 3, Humber Hawks 2

Against expectations, the Host Titans de Limoilou advanced to the championship final after defeating Humber three sets to two.

The hot, home crowd added to the game's atmosphere with the two teams trading points early and often. Humber and Limoilou kept pace with each other until the score reached 18-18, at which point the Hawks pulled away to claim the first set 19-25. The second set started the same with the teams tied at 4-4 and 8-8, but Humber's 10 aces, compared to only one for Limoilou, was the difference and put the Hawks up 2-0 after two sets.

Facing a three-set defeat, the Titans' aggressive attack started to pay off in the third. The Titans reduced their unforced errors and rallied to win the set 25-20. Humber and Limoilou then traded leads in a tension-filled fourth set which the Titans eventually claimed by a score of 25-23.

Feeding off the energy and emotion of their fans, Limoilou came out firing in the fifth and deciding set to take an 8-6 lead. From that point on everyone in the gym was on their feet. CCAA All-Canadian Charles St-Aubin's two consecutive aces put Limoilou on the brink of victory. Xavier Desfossés then served the decisive attack of the match, leading to a 15-10 set victory for the Hosts.
