Men’s Volleyball rolls to begin national tournament

LIMOILOU, QC – Top-ranked Humber opened the 2022 CCAA national championship tournament with a statement victory, sweeping the CMU Blazers in the quarter-final, 3-0. The final set scores were 25-18, 25-16, and 25-23.

National Player of the Year Joshua Fadare put on a clinic with the country watching, finishing with a match-high 20 kills on a .680 swing percentage. All-Canadian Jake Gomes recorded 33 assists and six aces, while senior Rrezart Sadiku recorded 13 points in the victory.

Gomes opened the match with two straight aces, giving the Hawks an early lead. The Blazers kept the opening set close, tying it at eight before a Jaskarn Kalsi kill gave Humber the spark it needed. Two more consecutive aces from Jake Gomes added to Humber's lead, eventually winning the opening set, 25-18.

The Hawks jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the second before CMU called an early timeout to stop Humber's momentum. The timeout did not help the cause, as Sadiku, Fadare, and Maximum Crowder helped Humber go on another 8-4 run before another CMU timeout. The Hawks would cruise from there to an easy second set win, 25-16.

The final set was anything but easy for the Hawks, as the Blazers refused to go easy in their first CCAA appearance. Humber jumped out to another quick lead but CMU rallied to keep the set within one. Tied at 23, CMU committed back-to-back attack errors, handing Humber the final set.

After his dominant performance, Joshua Fadare was named the player of the match.
