Josh Fadare going for a kill

Fadare recognized as the best in the conference as Men’s Volleyball garners numerous league awards

Humber wins player of the year, two All-Canadian selections, scoring title, west division title, and five all-star selections.

ETOBICOKE – The top-ranked program in the country received numerous league accolades Monday morning when the OCAA announced its annual awards as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

Second-year middle blocker Joshua Fadare was the headliner for the awards announcement after he was named a CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA Player of the Year, a first-team all-star, and the OCAA scoring champion. The 2019 rookie of the year took his game to the next level this year, becoming just the second player in the OCAA to average six-plus points in a season since 2000. His 1.00 aces per set was a new program record, becoming the third player in Humber volleyball history to win OCAA Player of the Year honours.

Setter Jake Gomes, whose passes helped Fadare become one of the most efficient scorers in the country, earned All-Canadian recognition for the second straight year – joining Humber Hall of Famer Tim Pennefather as the only players in program history to earn the honour in consecutive seasons. Gomes' 9.11 assists and 0.89 aces per set were the second-highest in the province. Since 2010, Humber volleyball has now received four All-Canadian selections.

Joining Fadare and Gomes as a first-team all-star was senior Rrezart Sadiku, who set a new career-high in aces per set while tying his best mark of 3.5 points per set.

Maximum Crowder – whose kill sealed the win for Humber in the 2020 OCAA gold medal match – received the league recognition he deserved, earning second-team honours. Libero Chris Bowen led Humber's defence all season, finishing as the team leader in digs per set and earning second-team honours, as well.

Leading the conference in all-star selections, Humber volleyball has received 60 OCAA all-star selections since 1987.

Top-ranked Humber will now attempt to defend its provincial title in North Bay, opening the semifinal round against Sheridan (9-2, 3rd West) on March 16. First serve is set for 8 p.m.
