Luca Uccello bringing the ball up in a match for TFC II

Humber soccer signs Toronto FC II star Luca Uccello

ETOBICOKE – The Humber men's soccer program has signed star midfielder Luca Uccello, announced head coach Michael Aquino. A native of Markham, Ont., Uccello will join the defending provincial champions for the upcoming 2021 season.

"We are very pleased to have signed a player of Luca's ability," said Coach Aquino. "He has played at the highest levels including TFC II and Canada's national team."

Uccello may boast one of the more impressive soccer resumes in Humber history, bringing plenty of experience and soccer knowledge to the perennial national championship contenders. He's appeared in 12 caps for the Canadian national team, competing with the U18 squad in 2015 and the U20 team in 2016 and 2017. He was nominated in back-to-back years by the Canadian Soccer Association for the Canadian Men's U20 player of the year award in both seasons. Later that year, he was named to Canada's U20 World Cup qualifying roster for the 2017 CONCACAF U20 Championship in Costa Rica.

"Luca is an excellent attack-minded player who can create and score goals," added Aquino. "He brings an experience and professionalism which will absolutely benefit all our players moving forward. We are excited to see Luca don the navy and gold."

Ucello joined TFC Academy in 2011 and two years later captured the Golden Boot at the U15 Generation Adidas Cup with five tallies as TFC Academy finished as runners-up against Chivas USA.

He signed his first professional contract in 2015 with Toronto FC II and made his debut against the Charleston Battery. In 77 career caps with TFC II, Uccello recorded 10 career goals.

The 2021 OCAA men's soccer season begins Sept. 17 with the Hawks on the road against George Brown. Humber's first home game of the season is Sept. 22 against Seneca and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
