PREVIEW: Humber Golf readies for the 2023 Canadian University/College Championship

LONDON – The reigning national champions are heading to London for the 2023 Canadian University/College Championship from May 30 to June 2. The top Canadian golfers in college and university will compete to be crowned the best in Canada at FireRock Golf Club.

History
  • Under the guidance of Hall of Fame head coach Ray Chateau, the men's golf squad has captured three titles (2004, 2007, and 2011) – finishing on the podium another four times.
  • Humber's 18-under-par victory in 2007 is a record that still stands to this day.
  • Since the championship began in 2003, the Hawks have been the only CCAA program to capture a title.
  • Brad Kerfoot (2004), Lee French (2007), and Mark Hoffman (2011) captured individual titles. French's title came after a two-hole playoff.
  • Maggie Trainor captured the individual title for Humber in 2009 as the women's squad finished in third place.
FireRock Golf Course

Humber golf is no stranger to FireRock, as both squads captured the OCAA titles in 2006. Then in 2018, the men's team won the gold again, while the women's squad finished second.

FireRock hosted the 2019 University/College Championship, where Cameron Griffins' three-over-par led the Hawks to a seventh-place finish.

Tee times

Will be announced on May 27 here.

The Course

Framed by natural grasses and trees, captivating landforms and ragged handmade bunkers, this stunning course flows effortlessly over pastureland, across environmentally significant Savannah grasses and the Oxbow River valley, intertwining with existing gravel spoil piles.

The challenging par-72 championship design (73 from the forward tees) measures 5,672 yards from the forward White tees, 6,279 yards from the Blues, 6,676 yards from the Gold tees and stretches back to a very demanding 7,183 yards from the tips.
