Cascart celebrating winning the national championship

Cascart heading to the Maritimes; signs with the Truro Tide

ETOBICOKE – 2022 CCAA national champion DeQuon Cascart is taking his talent to the east coast, where he will continue his basketball career at the professional level. The reigning OCAA Athlete of the Year inked a contract with the Truro Tide of the Eastern Canadian Basketball League last week.

"I don't think I can really put the feeling of signing my first contract into words," said Cascart. "Playing professional basketball was a dream of mine and has been a process ever since I graduated. Aside from the excitement of starting this new journey, the process of getting here has taught me to be patient, humble, and trust every decision I've made up until this point. I hope to make everyone proud when I get out there."

Cascart, a North York native, signed a contract with the Tide, with the season beginning March 30 against the Valley Vipers.

"I want to thank the entire Humber family – every single person from old to current coaches, teammates during my time there, all the friends I made, and all of the great staff," added Cascart.  "There are so many people that contributed to this goal of mine, and I'm grateful to call myself a Humber alumnus."

The ECBL brings premier professional basketball to the Maritimes, and the inaugural season begins this week. The league comprises six teams in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, with 26 regular season games.

"From his rookie season to leaving as a national champion, DeQuon consistently improved and elevated his game," said Humber men's basketball head coach Omar Miles. "He has the grit, work ethic, and determination to do the same thing at the professional level. I am so proud of everything he's accomplished and what he will continue to do."

Cascart joined the Hawks in 2016, and in his senior season, became the first player in program history to be named the OCAA Athlete of the Year. He led Humber to its seventh national title in 2022 and retired third all-time in scoring with 933 points.
