DeQuon Cascart holding the national championship trophy with the words Athlete of the Year

Cascart named top male athlete in the OCAA

TORONTO – The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Male Athlete of the Year award is coming back to Humber for just the third time in program history.

Basketball star DeQuon Cascart was named the best male athlete in the conference for the 2021-22 campaign, joining Mike Silva (Soccer - 2002) and Jesse Assing (Soccer//Badminton - 2016) as the only male athletes in Humber varsity history to garner the award.

"DeQuon has been a staple for this program and this year he developed into a true leader," said head coach Omar Miles. "He was a major contributor to winning double gold and I am extremely proud of his growth - not only as a student-athlete but as a man of good character."

The OCAA Athlete of the Year award has been presented annually by the conference since 1997 to the top male athlete from the nine OCAA-sanctioned sports and represents "the best of the best in Ontario collegiate athletics".

The magical run for the fifth-year senior from North York has now officially come to an end, and he will leave the Hawks as one of the most decorated players in program history. After earning All-Canadian and OCAA Player of the Year honours earlier this season, Cascart becomes the first-ever Humber men's basketball player to be named the overall conference athlete of the year.

"After watching the hard work and dedication DeQuon has shown since joining Humber in 2016, it is fitting that he concludes his career winning this prestigious award," said director of athletics Ray Chateau. "We are extremely proud of his accomplishments in all areas of representing this program and this college."

Cascart led the Hawks to a 16-0 record, capturing the program's seventh national championship – the first since 2015. His 21.5 points per game were a new career-high and he became just the seventh player in program history to average 20-plus points in a season. Cascart finishes his career third all-time in scoring for Humber basketball.
