ETOBICOKE – The Humber men's basketball team kicked off the CCAA national championship campaign with a win, defeating the Capilano Blues (12-8, 2nd PACWEST) Friday evening at the North Campus Gym, 88-78

It was a complete effort for the Hawks, as all five starters finished with double figures in points in the game. Frank Mitchell dominated in the paint, recording a double-double on 18 points and 24 rebounds. Both DeQuon Cascart and Kevin Otoo finished with 19 points on the night, while Rahsaan Chambers and Dwayne Lambert-Cadore finished with 16 and 12, respectively.

Humber came out the gates hot, going on a 16-0 run to start the game capturing the early momentum. As has been the case for most of his career, DeQuon Cascart provided the spark going off for 14 points in the quarter, as the Hawks took a 16-point lead after one.

The second quarter was tightly contested as the Blues looked to get back into the game. Humber outscored Capilano by just one in the quarter taking a 17-point lead into the half.

Capilano opened the third quarter strong, going on an 8-0 run to get within 10 points for the first time since the first quarter. Both sides traded baskets down the stretch of the third with Humber ending the quarter now up 12 points.

The Blues again chipped away at the Hawks lead getting within two possessions halfway through the fourth. Humber answered back almost immediately, pushing their lead back up to 16 points.
