2022 CCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Information

ETOBICOKE – With the conclusion of the OCAA conference championship on Thursday, the country has turned its attention to the 46th annual men's basketball national championship Mar. 25 to 27, hosted by Humber College.

The Field

The eight-team tournament will feature the CCAA debut of Cégep de Thetford, who won the Quebec title in its first season playing in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) division one. The Dawson Blues will join Thetford as the RSEQ wildcard.

The VIU Mariners will be in attendance to defend its 2019 national title as the PACWEST champions, while Capilano will be making its first appearance at the big dance since 2003 as a wildcard team. The Atlantic conference will be represented by MSVU, which will be making its first appearance since 2011. The Humber Hawks and St. Clair Saints will be representing the OCAA. The Saints will be making their first appearance for the first time since 1980 after winning the OCAA silver medal this season. The SAIT Trojans will represent the ACAC after beating Keyano to win its fifth straight conference title.

The entirety of the national championship will be streamed live online via the Hawks Sports Network on CCAA LIVE, and live statistics will be available on ccaa.ca.

Location

The 46th instalment of the championship tournament will take place at the North Campus Gym in Etobicoke. Humber last hosted the men's national championship in 2001, defeating the Sheridan Bruins on home court to capture the program's fifth national title in an 11-year span. The Hawks became just the second men's program to win on home court, joining the 1989 NAIT Ooks. Humber will be making its 23rd CCAA appearance, reaching the final four 17 times.  

Championship History
  • The OCAA leads the way with 36 CCAA medals, followed by the PACWEST at 33 and the RSEQ at 31.
  • With 14 total medals and six national titles, the Humber Hawks sit alone at the top of the standings. Dawson also owns 14 medals, five of which are gold. Langara leads the PACWEST with 12 medals and is tied with VIU with three national titles.
  • The OCAA, PACWEST, and RSEQ have combined to win 37 of the 45 national titles.

Ticket Information

Tournament passes will go on sale Tuesday, March 22 and will be sold at the Humber Athletics front office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., while a limited number of day passes will be available once the tournament begins.

Tournament passes will be sold for $20, while day passes can be purchased for $10. Current Humber and UofGH staff and students, Humber varsity alumni, and children 12 and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted free of charge and will be able to get their day pass beginning Mar. 25 – while supplies last.

Ticket availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.

COVID Mandates

All visitors to the North Campus Gym are required to be fully vaccinated with a Health Canada approved vaccine – no exemptions, no exceptions. Provincial QR Codes will be required to enter the college. Face masks will be required of guests and staff to enter the venue and should be worn at all times. This policy will be strictly monitored.

Media Information

Arrangements for media credentials for the tournament can be made through the Humber athletics communications office. Credentials will be required for anyone who wishes to cover the tournament and will be extremely limited.
