Strong fourth quarter lifts No. 3 Men's Basketball over Georgian in quarter-finals

ETOBICOKE – No. 3 Humber men's basketball will now advance to the OCAA Final Four after defeating the Georgian Grizzlies (7-3, 4th East) Saturday afternoon at the North Campus Gym, 97-80.

The duo of Kevin Otoo and DeQuon Cascart paved the way for the Hawks each finishing with over 20 points. Otoo recorded 25 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals while Cascart put up 20 points, six assists, four rebounds, and two blocks in the win.

Six Humber players finished in double figures as the Hawks showcased their depth. Raheem Dennis recorded his first career double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Frank Mitchell picked up his eighth double-double of the season on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jimmy Rich and Dwayne Lambert-Cadore rounded things out for Humber each finishing with 10 points.

Humber's offence came out hot to start the game going 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from the floor in the first quarter on way to a five-point lead.

Humber continued getting good looks in the second, once again outscoring the Grizzlies in the quarter to take an eight-point lead into the half. Kevin Otoo paced the Hawks offence in the quarter scoring nine points on four-of-six (66.6 percent) shooting from the floor.

Former Humber national champion and assistant coach Chad Bewley made his return to the North Campus Gym, this time donning a different shade of blue as the bench boss of the Grizzlies. Coach Bewley's halftime adjustments had the Hawks on their heels, as the Grizzlies came out of the break as the hungrier squad. It was a back-and-forth third quarter as Georgian took the lead for the first time since the first quarter, shooting a scorching 57.1 percent from the floor in the frame. Both teams continued to trade baskets before a final Cascart three-pointer gave Humber a three-point lead heading into the final ten minutes.

Humber came out hot with a 9-0 run to start the final quarter, capitalizing on its experience and athleticism to take a double-digit lead for the first time in the game. The Hawks held the Grizzlies to just one made basket through the first nine minutes of the quarter, as they outscored Georgian 23-9 in the fourth, picking up the 17-point victory.
