Dominant performance for No. 4 Men's Basketball to begin '22 campaign
ETOBICOKE — The No. 4 Humber men's basketball team kicked off the 2022 season at home with an emphatic win, defeating the Mohawk Mountaineers Wednesday evening at the North Campus Gym, 113-79.
Frank Mitchell had a standout performance in his debut for Humber, recording a 16-point 20-rebound double-double finishing with 16 points, 20 rebounds on 80 per cent (eight-for-10) shooting from the floor.
Six players finished with double-digit scoring for Hawks, including a game-high 22 points from senior DeQuon Cascart. Raheem Dennis was terrific in his Humber debut, finishing with 19 points, including a team-high four triples. Kevin Otoo and Dwayne Lambert-Cadore finished with 13 points each, while Jimmy Rich added 12 points and seven boards in his return to the Hawks.
It was a tightly contested opening quarter with each team trading baskets. The Hawks were only able to come away with a slim two-point lead after the first ten minutes, despite dominating on the glass with 14 rebounds.
Humber's offence began to heat up in the second frame, using a 20-4 run in the quarter helping them to take a commanding 19-point lead into the break, 65-41. Mitchell led the way for Humber, picking up a double-double in the first half on 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Humber continued to roll in the second half, cruising to a 39-point lead with 10 minutes to play.
That lead would prove too big for the Mountaineers to overcome as the Hawks picked up their first win of the season, 113-79.
