2022 Season Preview: No. 4 Men's Basketball

ETOBICOKE – No. 4 Humber men's basketball will return for its 47th season, opening the OCAA schedule on February 9 against Mohawk. Tip-off is set for 8 pm and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.

Fans will not be permitted to attend games for the first half of the season.

Scouting Mohawk
  • Humber has won 27 of its last 28 meetings against Mohawk at home - including 7 straight victories.
  • Rommel Calura and Daniel Graham reached the 300-point mark last season, finishing top-15 in the league in scoring.
  • Mohawk is the only team with a plus .500 win percentage against the Hawks in the OCAA postseason.
  • The Mountaineers 19 OCAA medals are the third-most in the conference.
2019-20 Highlights
  • The Hawks made a postseason appearance for the 37th consecutive season, capturing the OCAA silver medal.
  • Jaylan Morgan became just the second player in program history to score 300-plus points in a season, twice.
  • After starting the season 0-4, the Hawks went on to win 15 of their next 16 games, capturing the 19th division title in program history.
At the Helm

Omar Miles will be making his OCAA coaching debut, following four seasons as an assistant coach. During that time, the Hawks captured four OCAA medals and accumulated an overall record of 76-23 (.768).

Carlo Zoffranieri, Dave Bethune, and Humber basketball alumnus Warrick Manners join Coach Miles' staff for the season. Dylan Walters and Mark Zaragoza are on the staff as apprentice coaches.

Name Recognition

DeQuon Cascart, Kevin Otoo, Keith Laryea, Jimmy Rich and Dwayne Lambert-Cadore return for the 2022 season. These five student-athletes have combined to play in 153 regular-season games for the Hawks.

Ranked

The Hawks open the 2022 season as the fourth-ranked program in the country. Humber's highest-ranking last season was eighth. Four OCAA programs are ranked in the top-15: George Brown (7), St. Clair (13), and Redeemer (15).

Fresh Faces

Six players will be donning the navy and gold for the first time this season:

  • Raheem Dennis, Forward, Mississauga – Appeared in 27 games for the Grayson Vikings (NJCAA) during the 2019-20 season, scoring 125 points.
  • Rashaan Chambers, Forward, Toronto – Recorded 165 points for the SAIT Trojans during the 2018-19 season.
  • Romeo Osas Joshua, Guard, Toronto – making postsecondary debut.
  • Brett Pearce, Guard, Sault Ste. Marie – making postsecondary debut.
  • Stefan Arcuri , Point Guard, Thornhill – making postsecondary debut.
  • Frank Mitchell, Forward, Toronto – making postsecondary debut.
Last Dance

DeQuon Cascart enters his senior year sixth all-time in scoring with 761 points. The North York native is also third all-time in three-pointers made, and ninth all-time in assists and steals.

2022 CCAA National Championship

Humber will host the top seven teams in the country for the 2022 CCAA National Championship, March 25 to 27. Humber last hosted the basketball championship in 2001, winning the title on home court against Sheridan. Humber, along with NAIT in 1989, are the only two programs to win a national title at home.
