Bethune Joins Coach Miles’ Staff for the 2021 Season

ETOBICOKE – To round out his coaching staff for the 2021 season, first-year head coach Omar Miles has announced the addition of Dave Bethune to the Humber men's basketball team.

"I'm excited to add Dave to my coaching staff," said Coach Miles. "His passion for basketball runs deep and he's extremely well-known at the high school and club levels, which will be a great asset for our program."

With almost two decades of coaching experience, Bethune brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Coach Miles' staff which will begin to pay immediate dividends.

"I'm excited to join the program and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of Humber's winning tradition," Bethune said. "I'm looking forward to expanding my experience through more advanced player development while also applying my diverse experiences to help inspire student-athletes on and off the court."

A Western University alumnus, Bethune began coaching in 1995 with Hard Basketball, a community basketball team. He later joined the North Toronto JUEL team in 2008 as an assistant coach before becoming the head coach in 2013. His passion and desire to give back to the community through basketball is unparalleled and in 2016 he was named the head coach of the Toronto Triple Threat.

Miles and Bethune have an established coaching rapport, beginning in 2019 when Coach Miles was named the head coach of the U17 Ontario Boys provincial basketball squad. Already an apprentice coach, Bethune was elevated to assistant coach that same year.

"I'd like to thank Coach Miles and Humber Athletics for this opportunity," added Bethune. "I'm excited to join the Hawks family."

The OCAA basketball regular season will officially begin in January 2022. Tryouts for the 2021-22 men's basketball squad will be by invite-only this season. For more information, click here.
