Ferreira receives All-OCAA recognition

WINDSOR – Humber softball third baseman Alexis Ferreira was named an OCAA league all-star Wednesday morning when the league announced its yearly awards, as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

A first-time all-star, Ferreira led the league with six home runs – becoming the first Humber softball player to do so outright. Since home runs began being tracked in 2013, only one other player in league history has recorded six home runs in a season, but no one has done it in just 15 games.

The Mississauga native was named the OCAA athlete of the week this week after she slugged three home runs in three games.

Ferreira is in the conversation for one of the best defensive infielders in Humber softball history. She finished third in the league with 35 assists and her .944 fielding percentage is the highest mark in the conference.

Since the start of Humber softball in 2011, the Hawks have received 17 OCAA all-star selections.

The announcement of league award winners marks the beginning of the 2021 OCAA Championship, hosted by St. Clair College. Humber softball will open the tournament on Oct. 22 at 11 a.m.
