The Storyline

Humber baseball (5-0, 1st West) will host its 2021 home opener on Oct. 1 against George Brown (1-3, 4th East). Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.

Last Time Out

The Hawks rolled to a three-game road sweep last weekend, beating Durham (1-4, 2nd East) twice, and Centennial (1-4, 3rd East) the following day. Against the Colts, Humber scored an OCAA record 31 runs in five innings. Dennis Dei Baning finished with a career-high seven RBIs behind two home runs in one inning, while Cameron Wilcox and Jaykob Turner swatted their second long-balls of the season.

The story of the game was Aidan Murphy, who tied the OCAA record with five hits while setting a new league record with nine RBIs. Two of Murphy's hits were home runs, including a grand slam in the third inning.

Previous Meeting

Behind five solid innings from Cam Hibbs, the Hawks beat George Brown on Oct. 13, 2019, at Christie Pits, 5-3. Dei Baning led the squad offensively with a home run and two RBIs.

Bet on Black

Troy Black is the first head coach in Humber baseball history to begin his career with five straight victories.

Bombs Away

Humber's league-leading 11 big flies is a new program record – one off of the OCAA record set by Seneca in 2019. The Hawks hit six home runs against Centennial, establishing a new program-high for a single game.

Bannerville

Humber will raise its 2019 OCAA championship banner before the game.

Pocket Aces

Freshman Dalton Brownlee has been stellar to begin the season, not allowing an earned run over 10 innings of work, while striking out a league-high 20 hitters. Fellow rookie Shaine O'Keefe has given the Hawks a formidable 1-2 punch, earning a 2-0 record to begin the year with a 1.56 ERA.

As a team, Humber's 11.2 strikeouts-per-seven is the best mark in the conference.

Home Run King

Dennis Dei Baning's seven career home runs are the most in program history.

Wake and Rake

As a squad, the Hawks have a team batting average of .426 – more than 100 points higher than second-place St. Clair.

Triple Crown Watch

Infielder Aidan Murphy has been red-hot to start the season, slashing .706/773/1.471 through five games – all league-highs. His 16 RBIs lead the conference, while his three home runs are tied with Dei Baning for the most.
