Season Preview: 2021 Humber Baseball

The two-time defending OCAA champions return to the diamond this Friday on the road at Errol Russell. The Hawks will open the year with a doubleheader against the Lambton Lions, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.

2019 Highlights
  • The Hawks captured their second straight provincial title, defeating the Durham Lords 9-2.
  • Humber finished the season with a 13-5 record, capturing the program's second regular-season pennant.
  • The Hawks combined to hit seven home runs last season, the most in program history.
At the Helm

Troy Black will be making his head coaching debut for the Hawks after two seasons as the bench coach where his primary focus was on the infielders, base running and hitting. During that time, the Hawks captured two OCAA titles and the 2019 NCBC title, accumulating an overall record of 42-8 (.840). In 38 regular-season games, Humber baseball combined for a team average of .337 and 77 stolen bases.

Alex Thrower and Justin Marra return as assistant coaches, while newcomer Kyle Hill joins the squad as the pitching coach.

On the Road Again

Humber will start the season with six straight road games.

Daddy Hacks

Outfielder Dennis Dei Baning enters the season tied for first with four career home runs. His 51 runs batted in are third-most in program history, ten behind team leader Keegan Murphy.

Hit Parade

The Hawks return two of their top-four hitters from last season. Stephen Narhabeki finished the year hitting .392, while Aidan Murphy hit .354.

Mound Presence

Braden Taylor returns for his third season in the blue and gold, boasting a 6-1 record and a 1.86 earned run average in nine career regular-season games. His ERA is the second-best mark in program history while his wins are fifth-most all-time.

Humber's home opener will be on Oct. 1 against the George Brown Huskies. The Hawks will play consecutive home games before heading back on the road to conclude the regular season on Oct. 13. All Humber home games will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
