Chloe Rowe celebrating a point at nationals

Badminton legend Chloe Rowe named head coach

ETOBICOKE – Humber athletics is excited to announce that badminton legend Chloe Rowe is returning to the program to fill the vacant head coaching position. Rowe becomes the eighth head coach in program history.

Rowe is taking over for decorated coach Karen Ng, who announced her retirement last month after thirteen seasons and 14 national championships with Humber badminton.

"I am excited to welcome back legendary alumna Chloe Rowe to Humber," said former coach and current associate athletic director Michael Kopinak. "Chloe made a name for herself in the navy and gold, and it is time for her to take over the program that helped develop her into the leader she is today."

Rowe is one of the most decorated student-athletes in Humber's history, competing for the badminton team from 2016-20. During her four-year career, the Newmarket native captured four OCAA and four CCAA titles, becoming the only female athlete in Humber's history to win four national titles. She also reached the top of the national rankings in women's doubles.

"Humber has always been home for me, and I am very much looking forward to being back," said Rowe.

Besides her tremendous accomplishments on the court, Rowe has been just as successful in coaching. She's spent over five years coaching high-performance and non-competition levels at K.C. Badminton Club – one of the biggest clubs in the country. She was then promoted to the manager of non-competition in 2020.

During the 2021-22 season, Rowe participated in the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP), a program designed to identify and support female graduating student-athletes who demonstrate the desire and skills for coaching by providing them opportunities in the coaching experience in CCAA sports. Rowe spent the season with the Centennial Colts.

"I would like to thank my husband, mom and dad for being the ones to push me to apply for the position," Rowe added. "With Humber being such an accomplished program, I wasn't sure if I was ready to tackle it all. Their faith in me gave me the confidence to do it."

Two-time OCAA medalist Harry Cotaras will be joining Coach Rowe on her staff.

The 2022-23 OCAA badminton season begins November 18 at the Fanshawe Invitational.
