Karen Ng coaching at the 2022 OCAA provincial championship

After 13 years, Humber badminton coach Karen Ng retires

ETOBICOKE – Humber badminton head coach Karen Ng has announced her retirement after a distinguished career that spanned over a decade with the Hawks. Since 2010, Humber badminton has captured 41 OCAA provincial gold medals and 14 CCAA national titles.

Ng's OCAA career began with the Georgian Grizzlies, when she won the OCAA gold in the women's singles discipline in 2008, followed by a bronze medal at nationals.

Ng went on to join Michael Kopinak and Lam Trinh's coaching staff with Humber in 2010, ushering in the most prosperous era in Humber badminton history. Over the next 12 seasons, the Hawks would go on to win 63 OCAA and 30 CCAA medals.

After Hall of Famer Raymond Wong retired from coaching at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, Ng officially took over the role in 2018. In just her first season, the Hawks made history when CCAA All-Canadian Ramnish Kumar became the first player to ever win a national title for Humber in the men's singles discipline.

Assistant coach David Trinh, who also joined the staff in 2018, will be stepping down, as well.

The Humber Department of Athletics is now accepting applications to fill the vacant role, and any interested candidates can reach out to Associate Athletic Director Michael Kopinak for more information.
