Humber Athletics mourns the passing of Caroline Fletcher Wilkins

Caroline Wilkins obituary

ETOBICOKE – The Humber Athletics Department is saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Caroline Fletcher Wilkins, wife of women's volleyball head coach Chris Wilkins, and sends their deepest condolences to the Wilkins family during this difficult time.

Chris and Caroline met at Humber College as student-athletes, both competing on the varsity volleyball teams. An incredible volleyball talent, she was named a team captain in her freshman season in 1996 and she would maintain that role for all four seasons. Caroline was also a two-time provincial champion and in her final season, she was named a CCAA All-Canadian – an extremely rare accolade for a setter.

"Caroline was the first athlete that I remember recruiting where I knew that our program was destined for greatness," said former Humber athletic director Doug Fox (1990 to 2013). "Her athletic ability, volleyball skills and leadership led us to numerous championships. She is the GOAT [greatest of all-time] for women's volleyball, but she was an even better person."

Caroline was inducted into the Humber Hall of Fame in 2003 and then into the OCAA Hall in 2005. She was also named to Humber's All-Century team.

"Caroline was there in the beginning, and was a huge contributor to what has become the term Hawk Family," said Jim Bialek, former Sports Information Director. "Now, in this very sad time for her family and friends, it is my belief that the Hawk Family will be there for Caroline's family. I know that love and support will come pouring in for them."

Caroline, a treasured member of the volleyball community and a wonderful ambassador for Humber College will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you consider a donation to Caroline's favourite charity -"Save Our Scruff- Rehome and Rescue Organization".

For those who would like to share a message of condolence or fond memories, Humber Athletics has created a virtual card that will go to the Wilkins family later next week.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at Rod Abrams Funeral Home (1666 Tottenham Rd., Tottenham) on Thursday August 11, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Parish (14485 Jane St., King City, ON) on Friday August 12, 2022 at 10:30am. A reception will follow.
