2019-20 HSN Play of the Year Champion: Amber Bechard's Buzzer Beater

2019-20 HSN Play of the Year Champion: At the Buzzer

ETOBICOKE – The 2019-20 campaign was filled with great plays from the Humber Hawks. Throughout the month of October, fans have voted for the HSN Play of the Year Showdown, with almost 11,000 votes tallied during the tournament. The championship final was a nail-biter as predicted, with both plays exchanging leads throughout the 24-hour voting period. A late push Friday morning across all platforms saw a champion emerge, Amber Bechard's 'Buzzer Beater'.

The finals reached a record number of voters, smashing the previous high to finish with 1,427 votes. Bechard's play was the perfect storm – a game-winning basket over a rival, combined with the emotion of the environment and TV announcer, topped off with the final basket of a national champion on seniors' night at the North Campus Gym. It was enough to narrowly scrape by the incredible moment of an up-and-coming career. Rookie Jess MacPherson's walk-off against Durham in extra innings to win the provincial title for the Hawks finished as the leading vote-getter in the tournament – but fell just shy in the tournament.

Congratulations to Amber Bechard and the Humber women's basketball team for winning the inaugural HSN Play of the Year Showdown and thank you to all those that voted and made the tournament a tremendous success.
