Humber Participates in Inaugural Hockey Skills Competition (Ottawa)

As part of the Ontario Collegiate Recreation Invitational Hockey Tournament hosted by La Cite, the Humber Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams had the opportunity to participate in a fun skills competition with participants from other academic institutions.

The skills competition was added to the tournament schedule as a unique way for participants to get some additional ice time, show off their individual talents and mingle with athletes from across the province.  The competition was split into 3 categories including:  Fastest Skater, Accuracy Shooting and Goal Master and all registered tournament players were given the chance to compete.

Each athlete or pairing was able to compete in their respective events while the house DJ continued to play well-known sports anthems, and fans in the stands cheered them on.  The Humber Hawks brought home five of the possible six individual awards for their efforts.

  • Women’s Fastest Skater – Rebecca Beck
  • Women’s Accuracy Shooting – Ella McCullough
  • Women’s Goal Master – Rachel Zmigrodzki
  • Men’s Fastest Skater – Nathan Grosso
  • Men’s Accuracy Shooting – Daniel Ruocco

There won’t be a skills competition scheduled, but the Hawks are in action again on Friday, March 11th when they welcome teams from across the province to their home tournament in Toronto.
