Lakeshore Feature - Julia Finnie

Etobicoke - We’re featuring Humber Alumni Julia Finnie!

Julia graduated from the bachelor of social science in criminal justice in 2016. Since graduating, Julia went on to complete her Masters in social work and now works at a child and adolescent community mental health agency. Way to go Julia!

Her favourite colour (and freeze flavour!) is blue and she loves brie cheese. Julia’s favourite athlete is Kara Webbs, a professional CrossFit athlete and professional mother!

To Julia Humber Athletics means community, inclusion, learning, and experimenting. It always gave her a chance to get out of her comfort zone, try new things, meet new people, and take a break from the stresses of her studies.

Julia has so many memories and experiences from her time at Humber Athletics. To name a few, building confidence in the weight room and learning how to lift weights with her friends and co-workers. Completing the O Course in her first few weeks at Humber in 2012, learning how to Rock Climb and competing in her first Powerlifting meet!

Her tips for students is to “face the things that scare you. Starting at a new school, meeting new people, and beginning a new educational journey is difficult and truthfully terrifying, but those difficult and scary things are what can make the biggest positive changes in your life. Offer yourself compassion throughout your journey, especially in this new virtual platform. You are facing something that no other generation has, and it is going to be hard, but it will be worth it.”
