Wilson, Russell Earn Humber Student-Athlete of the Week Honours

Soccer defender Keegan Wilson and striker Kaitlynn Russell have earned Humber Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honours for the week of Oct. 24-30 after helping their teams capture the OCAA championship this weekend.

Soccer phenom Kaitlynn Russell and the Humber "One-Trick Pony" Hawks captured the program's first OCAA title since 2012. After being named the west division player of the year, Russell was named championship MVP Saturday at Durham College.

The Mississauga native recorded four postseason tallies, including the overtime game-winner in the OCAA semifinal. In the 118th minute, Russell charged the box on a free kick, heading home her second tally of the match.

In eight career postseason matches, Russell now has seven tallies - the sixth most in program history.

For Kaitlynn, it's the third athlete of the week selection of her career.

Keegan and the Hawks successfully defended their provincial title for the fourth straight season, defeating the No. 4 Seneca Sting in the finals, 4-0. The third-year defender averaged 85 minutes during the tournament, holding opposing offences to 2.7 shots-per-match. 

The Toronto native becomes just the 12th player in program history to be named the OCAA championship most valuable player.

For Keegan, it's the first athlete of the week selection of his career.
