HAWKS MEN & WOMEN VIE FOR CCAA NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY SUCCESS

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks will be represented by both the women's and men's teams at the upcoming 2018 CCAA National Cross Country Championships, which are being hosted by Seneca College and held at Seneca's King City campus (13990 Dufferin St., King City, Ontario, L7B 1B3) on Saturday.

The women's team qualified for the nationals by way of their OCAA silver medal winning performance a few weeks ago. They were led by Kaitlyn Shuvera, who led the Hawks on her way to the individual silver medal. Shuvera will be looking for a top ten finish, and with a solid outing, possibly a spot on the podium.

The Hawks, currently ranked eighth in the country, will need a similar performance from this past week in the provincials to be in the talk for a top three finish. The good news is that Humber has run the King City course on a number of occasions in the past.

Humber's women finished in eleventh place at the 2017 National event at Collège Lionel Groulx in Ste-Thérèse, QC.

Kaitlin Shuvera finished eleventh with a time of  22:45.2, just missing an All-Canadian spot.

The women's 6k race will commence at 12:00 noon.

The men had a solid outing at last year's nationals, placing eighth overall as a team. This year at the OCAA championships, they registered one of their weaker showings in a number of years, finishing in fifth place.

Humber's Aaron Veenstra was the Hawks top runner in Quebec, finishing in 40th with a time of 27:29.7. At the OCAA championships this year, Cole Czuchnicki led the Hawks, finishing in sixth place

The men's 8k race will commence at 1:00 pm.
