HAWKS MEN AND WOMEN JUST SHY OF PODIUM IN LONDON

Story by: Dani Dupuis

LONDON, ONT: Saturday, September 15, Fanshawe College hosts their 22nd annual Invitational at the Fanshawe Conservation Area. The Women's race was held at 11 a.m. and the Men's at noon.

Everything was calm on the course as the runners took their marks. The air was crisp, and there was a slight breeze coming off the nearby lake. The runners are at the line. The announcer speaks and everyone goes silent. The gun goes off and so do the runners. With that we say, hello and welcome to the Humber Hawks 2018-19 Cross Country season.

As the race begins, Humber does what they do best – packed running. The Women's team consists of Kaitlyn Shuvera and Katelyn Morgan, vets on the team and newbies Kayleigh Bush, Ana Jaimes, and Sue Yemen. As a team Humber placed fourth with 68 points.

Moving onto the men's 8 km race. This year's men's team consists of Aaron Veenstra, Graiden Maynard, Chris Tomlinson, and Zac Nixon as returning athletes. New to the men's team is Cole Czuchnicki, Joshau Heuving, Peter Wilson, and Mohammed Mundhir. Racing is no surprise to these four athletes seeing as they have all ran previously for different colleges. Leaving the race today the Men's team, just like the Women's team placed fourth with 58 points.

The Hawks Cross Country team will be returning to the line Saturday September 23
