HAWKS OPEN 2019 PROVINCIALS WITH DOMINATING 3-0 WIN OVER SHERIDAN

SUDBURY, ON: There was no indication that the Hawks were looking beyond the Sheridan Bruins in the 2019 OCAA Women's Volleyball Quarterfinal, as they put together a complete effort on their way to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-14) win.

With the victory, they have now advanced to the much-anticipated semifinal match-up with the West Division-leading Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday evening.

Give the Hawks full credit for putting the pressure on the Bruins from the onset, and the fact that they seemed to get stronger as the match rolled on. Humber, once again, displayed their fine defensive game, seemingly getting a hand on every ball.

The major up-side was their ability to serve tough up and down the line-up. This put pressure on the Sheridan side, limiting their opportunity to transition balls into offensive chances.

Superb play came from Humber's two All-Stars. First-team setter Alex Bartman lived up to her billing and earned Player of the Game honours. She dished out a game-high 29 assists while contributing 2 aces, 2 blocks and a kill.

Second-teamer and fifth-year captain Kyla Wilkins continued to do what she has done throughout her career, and that is to provide stellar defensive play. She led both teams, with 9 digs in the game.

Freshman middle Rosella Falcomer led both squads on the afternoon with 11 offensive points, with 10 coming via the kill.

The return of first-semester standouts Alex Krstonosic and Hayley Henderson also paid dividends, as the two made contributions in the victory.
