OAKVILLE, ON: In a match between two 4-1 teams, the visiting Humber Hawks survived a first set thriller and then went on to a 3-0 straight set win over Sheridan on Wednesday night. The final set scores were 26-24, 25-16, 25-13.
There was little momentum shown by both teams as the match opened. They struggled to get into the groove of their game plans. As the teams continued to trade the lead back and forth, the Hawks slowly pulled away with a four-point lead. This pushed the Sheridan coach to call the first timeout of the match. Directly after this, the Bruins began pushing back against Humber. As the Bruins were executing perfectly and Humber was making unforced errors, Coach Wilkins had no other choice than to call a time out at 14-13. The back and forth continued throughout the rest of the match as both teams began playing to the level they are known for. Humber stayed in the lead, but the Bruins were only one point behind before tying up the score at 24-24. Sheridan seemed to ease back at this point, allowing Humber to take the final two kills of the game. The final score was 26-24.
Alex Krstonosic began the second set with a huge six point serving run. This caused Sheridan to recollect themselves in a timeout, down 6-0. The Hawks came out of the timeout still gunning. Without taking their foot off the pedal, the Hawks took every opportunity available to get a kill. With the Hawks tightening up on their offensive attack, they nailed down multiple kills before finishing the set off at 25-16.
The third and final set resembled the second, as Sally Nguuyen went on a five point serving run. This pushed the Bruins into an early time out to try and reset their game. As both teams reentered the court, Humber continued to take control of the game and force the Bruins out of an offense. Rossella Falcomer earned the Hawks a six point serving run which dug the Bruins into an irreversible eight point deficit. After this, Hayley Henderson pushed a huge kill and stole every piece of momentum Sheridan had left. At this point, the Hawks were flying far above the Bruins, who were unable to shorten the lead ahead of them. The final set score was 25-13.
The Hawk's lead scorers were Hayley Henderson and Alex Krstonosic, as they earned 10 and 11 kills each. Kyla Wilkins further extended the record for all-time digs in a Humber Varsity career to 464. This now thrusts the record to 13 digs over what it was before the 2018-19 season started.

The Hawk's will be preparing to face off against the Fanshawe Falcons, in what will be one of their toughest matches of the season. The game will take place November 24th, at 6:00pm in the Humber North Campus Main gym.
