SUDBURY, ON: The Humber Hawks extended their OCAA league and playoff winning streak to 156 games this weekend as they topped the Boréal Vipers on Sunday afternoon.
Opening the match against the Vipers, the Hawks struggled to play in such a quiet environment. But, as the lead juggled back and forth, Humber began to slowly slip away with the upper hand. This was intensified with a serving run by Rossella Falcomer, forcing Boréal to take a time out at 11-6.
Humber continued to build on their lead as the Vipers were unable to make a comeback. With killer swings by Danielle Miles, the Hawks finalized the set at 25-15.
The Hawks carried their momentum from the previous set as Humber led Boréal early. The Vipers were determined to stay within arms reach of Humber as they evened up the score at 11-11. But the Hawks did not let this last long, as they held down their side of the court and began to play more disciplined. Slamming down ball after ball, Boréal called a time out at 19-12 to try and give their team a breather. After three aces in a five point serving run, Kyla Wilkins finalized the second set at 25-13.
The Hawks took a quick 5-1 lead in the third set as the Vipers struggled to find their offence. This lead was extended as right side Sally Nguuyen created a six point serving run for the Hawks. Now far above the Vipers at 16-6, the Hawks seemed to loosen up, allowing Boréal to gain points back. This slow section of the game did not last long though, as the Hawks began to double down and play more aggressively. The Vipers tried to fight back but the Hawks stay disciplined and refused to lose extra points. They finished off the game at 25-13.
Leading match scorers were Danielle Miles and Aideena Wickstrom, as they both earned 8 kills for the Hawks. Kyla Wilkins scored herself another two digs, bringing her just three digs from claiming second place for career digs in a Humber Varsity season.

This coming Saturday, November 10th, the Hawks look to travel to Windsor to play against the St. Clair Saints.
