Women’s Soccer Captures Bronze Medal at 2019 OCAA Championship

ANCASTER – The Humber women's soccer team responded to its semifinal loss by winning the OCAA bronze medal over Sheridan Saturday afternoon, 2-0.

The Hawks entered the game missing a couple of key players but returned to its usual style of play by controlling possession and dictating the pace.

Humber opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Giulia Zanardi chipped a pass over a Sheridan defender, springing Emma Stushnoff on a breakaway. The freshman saw Sheridan keeper Savanna Wood off of her line and delivered along strike to the back of the net for her second tally in as many matches.

In the second half, Zanardi made another through pass to Krystina Carvalho who drove deep into Sheridan territory before passing back to Zanardi. The Tottenham native stepped up to the pass, drilling a shot from outside the 18-yard box to record her fourth goal of the postseason.

Keeper Vanessa Fiore made four saves to record her third clean sheet of the postseason.

After the match, Emma Stushnoff was named to the all-tournament team.
