Late Game Heroics From Stushnoff Lifts Humber Over Sheridan, 3-2

VAUGHAN – A last second goal freshman Emma Stushnoff helped Humber (5-1-1, 2nd West) defeat the Sheridan Bruins (4-2, 3rd West) Wednesday at the Ontario Soccer Centre, 3-2.

Humber opened the scoring the 26th minute when Giulia Zanardi found Catarina Medeiros in the box. Medeiros ran to the outside by two defenders and drilled a shot to the top corner of the net for her third goal of the season.

Humber's offence maintained the pace of the play in the opening half, firing five more shots on net than the Bruins but was unable to capitalize and went into half leading, 1-0.

Sheridan responded in the 61st minute when former Humber player Victoria Rodrigues scored off of a rebound in front of the net.

Less than ten minutes later, Breanna Senfner tracked down a loose ball and fired a cross back into the box, finding Giulia Zanardi for her fourth goal of the season.

The Bruins tied the match with four minutes remaining when a streaking Cathy Cavero was left all alone and snuck the ball over a leaping Vanessa Fiore.

In injury time, Krystina Carvalho blasted a corner kick into the box that found the head of Taylor Thomson. Emma Stushnoff buried the pass from Thomson, recording the game-winner in the 93rd minute.
