OAKVILLE, Ont – No. 4 Humber women's soccer (10-0-0, 1st Central) concluded the 2018 regular season in dominating fashion, defeating No. 11 Sheridan (8-2-0, 2nd Central) Tuesday evening, 5-0.
Despite the regular season dominance, Humber needed a win or a draw to clinch a berth into the 2018 OCAA Championship Final Eight tournament.
The Hawks began the match playing their usual style of soccer, keeping possession in the Sheridan zone for much of the opening half. In the 22nd minute, Hayley Mackie recorded her first goal of the season, converting on a corner kick off the boot of Rebecca Spratt.
Minutes later, U SPORTS All-Canadian Nicole Lyon banged a shot from outside the 18-yard box over the Sheridan keeper, for her fifth goal of the season.
Sheridan tried to press as the match reached the 45-minute mark but had trouble getting the ball past second-year defender Remi Pelletier. At the break, Humber led, 2-0.
Humber continued to attack in the second half and in the 59th minute, extended its lead to three. Rebecca Spratt brought the ball deep into the Sheridan zone, making a brilliant cross through the box for an easy tap-in for Zoe Longsworth.
Subbing in, late in the match, Shaniece Bennett recorded her fifth tally of the season, giving Humber a 4-0 lead in the 73rd minute.
As time ran down, Zoe Longsworth danced through multiple defenders, scoring her second goal of the match on a highlight reel run.
All-star Vanessa Fiore recorded her ninth win of the season, making three saves to pick up the clean sheet.

- The win secured Humber's 16th OCAA division title.
- For the first time in program history, the Hawks did not surrender a goal during the regular season. Keepers Vanessa Fiore and freshman Courtney Nadeau combined for ten clean sheets.
- The Hawks extend their regular season shutout streak to 1,319 consecutive minutes.
- Humber's 52 goals are the most in program history, surpassing the previous high of 48 established in 2000.
- 14 players recorded at least one goal for the Hawks this season, the most since 2011.
- Zoe Longsworth and Giulia Zanardi led the team with eight goals, each. Longsworth now sits ninth all-time on Humber's career scoring list with 15 goals.
- Humber's goal differential of plus-52 is the best mark in the OCAA.
What's Next?
No. 4 Humber will now await its quarter-final matchup at the 2018 OCAA Championship, hosted by Seneca College. The quarterfinals will begin Oct. 25.
