Rugby Sevens Open 2019 Season at Conestoga Saturday

The Storyline
The Humber women's rugby sevens team will begin its fourth season of OCAA action this Saturday at the Conestoga tournament. The Hawks will play three games, with the first game against Seneca scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

About Humber

Women's rugby sevens officially joined the OCAA in 2016 and since its inception, the Hawks have been the premier team in the league. In three seasons, Humber has captured two provincial titles and a silver medal, and enter the year with an all-time record of 48-4 (.923).

Final Lap
Two of the best to ever play for the Humber rugby program will be competing in their final season for the Hawks. Fifth-year seniors Christina Branch and Cheyenne De Luca sit atop Humber's all-time scoring list. Branch's 374 points is the most in OCAA history and Cheyenne De Luca only needs two more points to move to second all-time in OCAA scoring.

At the Helm
Head coach Dale Essue returns for his seventh season with Humber, owning a 69-7 (.908) record since 2013. Phil Boone returns for his sixth season as an assistant coach and the duo has played an instrumental role in Humber's transition rugby 15's to 7's. Former Humber rugby star Jason Chuck joins the coaching staff for his first season.

What's Next?
Humber rugby will play in its second tournament of the season on Sept. 28 at Sheridan.
