No. 8 Women's Basketball Wins Road Game Over No. 14 St. Clair

WINDSOR — The No. 8 Humber women's basketball team wrapped up their weekend double-header with a win, defeating the No. 14 St. Clair Saints (12-4, 3rd West), 76-69, Sunday afternoon.

Miea Campbell-Johnson was once again terrific for Humber in this one, picking up her second straight double-double and fourth on the season. Campbell-Johnson finished with a season-high 25 points in the win to go along with 10 rebounds and one assist.

It was a tightly contested opening quarter as both teams excelled on the offensive side of the ball. For their part, the Hawks finished with 18 points in the quarter coming off of 6-of-17 (35.5 percent) shooting from the field. Felicia Velasquez had an outstanding opening quarter chipping in six points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Humber put together its best stretch of the afternoon during the second quarter, as Miea Campbell-Johnson dominated on the offensive end. MCJ finished with 18 of her teams 22 points in the quarter, as the Hawks outscored the Saints by 13 in the second frame, taking a ten-point lead into the half.

It was another back-and-forth affair in the third with St. Clair coming out ahead 23-18 in the quarter. Humber struggled with turnovers in the frame, giving it up eight times, helping the Saints to score in transition. Ivana Twumasi helped the Hawks retake the lead as the second-year guard picked up five points and five rebounds in just five minutes of action in the third.

Entering the fourth, Humber carried a slim five-point lead as they looked to close it out.

Thanks to some terrific plays on the defensive end the Hawks held the Saints to 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) shooting from the field on the way to 16 points. That would not be enough to overtake Humber as they finished with 18 in the quarter on the way to the 76-69 victory.
