NOFUENTE GARNERS TOP HONOURS AT OCAA AWARDS BANQUET

WELLAND, ON: Point guard Ceejay Nofuente is going to need a bigger trophy case.

At the annual awards banquet, the third-year Toronto native was honoured with the association's biggest awards after being named CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year Thursday morning.

"No one deserves this more than Ceejay," said second-year assistant coach Aycha Hamaoui.  "She has constantly been putting in extra work before and after practice and she trained at the school all summer long.  She is a very important piece to what we are working towards."

This season, Nofuente set new career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.  Nofuente was also the only student-athlete in the OCAA to rank top-11 in all five categories, including first in assists and steals.

Nofuente became the 14th player in program history to score 500 points during their career and broke the team record this season for free throws made.  Since the women's program came into fruition in 1987, the Hawks have now been honoured with nine All-Canadians, the last coming in 2006 when Erin Chamberlain brought home the award.

Nofuente is now in the running for the 2016 CCAA National Player of the Year award, which will be handed out during the national championships held at St. Clair College March 16-19 in Windsor, Ontario.

Before that award is revealed, Nofuente and the Hawks will be trying to defend their provincial title in the three day OCAA championship tournament.  First game is Thursday at 1:00pm against the St. Clair Saints and can be live streamed here.
