Allen Headlines Award Winners For Men's Soccer

Humber wins player of the year, top defensive team, west division scoring title, and six all-star honourees at the 2019 OCAA Men's Soccer Awards Banquet.


PETERBOROUGH – The defending CCAA national champion Humber men's soccer garnered numerous accolades Thursday evening when the league announced its yearly awards as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

Striker Leaford Allen was the headliner on the afternoon after he was named a CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA Player of the Year, a first team all-star, and the west division scoring champion. He's the seventh Humber player to be named player of the year, joining Luigi Della Rovere (1997), Kwame Osei (2005), Andrew DaSilva (2009), Marcelo Cappozolo (2011), Marcos Nunes (2016), and Kingsley Boasiako (2017).

Allen recorded 14 tallies in nine matches this season, leading the highest-scoring offence in the west division. His 14 goals were the third-most in program history.

Humber's defence allowed a league-low seven goals against this season and was once again named the west division defensive top defensive team.

Along with Allen, five Hawks were named to the all-star team. Federico Leal was named an all-star for the third straight season, while Michael Fayehun received the honour for the second consecutive season. Freshman Max Ferrari saw his name called for the first time and senior Cody Green was selected with second team honours.

Since 1993, the Hawks lead the OCAA with 70 all-star honours.

Humber men's soccer resumes postseason action tomorrow, taking on No. 8 Seneca in the OCAA semifinal. Game time is set for noon.
