Missed Opportunities Leads to No. 1 Men's Soccer First Loss of the Season

VAUGHAN – Top-ranked Humber men's soccer (6-1, 1st West) fell to No. 11 Sheridan Bruins (5-1, 2nd West) Wednesday evening at the Ontario Soccer Centre, 3-2.
Humber's prolific scoring attack fell flat at home, missing numerous opportunities throughout the match.
Freshman Max Ferrari opened the scoring off of a pass from Cody Green, chipping the ball over keeper Chester Ashby in the 8th minute.
In the 23rd minute, Sheridan tied the match on a goal from Seth Day. Jayden Cameron turned the corner past a Humber defender, making a pass through the box that found Day. Day made no mistake with the pass, blasting his shot to the top corner by a sprawling Nick Frenati.
As time concluded in the half, Sheridan was awarded a penalty kick and Jevontae Layne converted to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Frenati guessed right on the shot but the ball snuck by his outstretched arms.
After the break, Humber nearly tied off a corner kick that found the head of captain Michael Fayehun but his strike hit the crossbar and went out of play off of a Sheridan defender. On the ensuing corner kick, Federico Leal went far side, and Cody Green outjumped the Bruins defenders to head home his second goal of the season.
In the 69th, Day scored his second tally of the match, after a throw-in went into the box. Jevontae Layne made a nice back-heel pass that found a streaking Day who snuck his shot through Cody Green's legs and under Frenati.
In injury time, Humber had another opportunity to salvage a point from the match. Off of a corner kick, Leal made a quick inbound pass, finding freshman Julian DeSousa at the top of the 18-yard box. DeSousa crept in and blasted a strike but keeper Chester Ashby made an incredible save to secure the victory.
