HAWKS ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS AS NUMBER 1 TEAM IN POOL

ANCASTER, ON: The Humber Hawks men's indoor soccer team have advanced to the semi-finals as the number one team in its pool at the 2018 OCAA Championships.

The Hawks lost their opener 1-0 to Fanshawe on Friday morning, but then responded with a 5-0 shellacking of the St. Clair Saints. They ended the pool round robin with a record of 2-1-1, being the only team to record two wins over the first two days. As the top team in the division will advance to the OCAA medal round on Saturday, and will play the second place UTM team. The other semi-final will see Seneca play the top team in the other pool, George Brown.

The semi-final game will kick-off at 9:30 pm, from the Redeemer Soccer Dome. The bronze and gold medal games will follow at 12:30 pm.

GAME 1:

Humber 1 vs Sheridan 1

The Hawks needed a late goal by Daniel Korkus to tie the Bruins. There was no scoring in the first half of the game. Humber was awarded a number of power plays, but it was on one of them that the Bruins scored in short-handed fashion.

GAME 2:

Humber 4 vs Seneca 0

Humber opened the scoring early, on a marker by Bradley Fenton. They narrowly missed twice shortly after but tacked on another before half. Luca Baldassarre was the recipient of a nice pass from Fenton to put Humber up by 2. They continued to pour it on, scoring twice in the second half on goals by Cody Green and a second marker from Fenton. Eugenio Garro recorded the clean sheet.

GAME 3:

Humber 0 vs Fanshawe 1

A slow start came back to haunt the Hawks, as Fanshawe scored and never looked back. It was the Falcons only win during pool play, as they ended in fourth despite knocking off the top ranaked Hawks.

GAME 4:

Humber 5 vs St. Clair 0

In a "do-or-die" game, Humber came out on fire, leaving no doubt as to their drive to the top of the pool. Jaineil Hoilett had two, while Luca Baldassarre, Daniele Clemente and Malik Arab added singles. Eugenio Garro recorded his second shutout of the championship.
